Optical drive NOTE: The optical drive spare part kit does not include the optical drive bezel or optical drive brackets. The optical drive bezel is available using spare part number 857832-001. The optical drive brackets are available using spare part number 857827-001. Description DVD±RW DL SuperMulti Drive Spare part number 857903-001 Before removing the optical drive, follow these steps: 1. Turn off the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer. 3. Disconnect all external devices from the computer. 4. Remove the bottom cover (see Bottom cover on page 24). 5. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (see Battery on page 26). Remove the optical drive: 1. Remove the four Phillips M2.0×3.0 screws (1) that secure the optical drive to the keyboard/top cover. 2. Disconnect the optical drive (2) from the system board by sliding it to the left. 3. Remove the hard drive (3). 4. If it is necessary to replace the optical drive brackets, remove the four Phillips M2.0×2.6 screws (1) that secure the optical drive brackets to the optical drive. 34 Chapter 5 Removal and replacement procedures

Before removing the optical drive, follow these steps:
1.
Turn
off
the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is
off
or in Hibernation, turn
the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect the power from the computer by unplugging the power cord from the computer.
3.
Disconnect all external devices from the computer.
4.
Remove the bottom cover (see
Bottom cover
on page
24
).
5.
Disconnect the battery cable from the system board (see
Battery
on page
26
).
Remove the optical drive:
1.
Remove the four Phillips M2.0×3.0 screws
(1)
that secure the optical drive to the keyboard/top cover.
2.
Disconnect the optical drive
(2)
from the system board by sliding it to the left.
3.
Remove the hard drive
(3)

4.
If it is necessary to replace the optical drive brackets, remove the four Phillips M2.0×2.6 screws
(1)
that
secure the optical drive brackets to the optical drive.
