5. Note the PIP underlayer batch number (barcode). The 3rd character of the batch number (in the above picture, it is R) is the production year (each year gets a different letter) and the 4th and 5th characters (in the above picture, it is 36) are the production week. 6. Replace the PIP underlayer with one from a different batch, that is, a different production year or a production week with a large difference from the installed PIP underlayer. 7. Check for side fog as described in "Checking for side fog on page 1" . Charge roller The charge roller sub-system should always be dry after printing. Pull out the charge roller and verify that it is dry. If it is not, do the following: 1. Remove the charge roller assembly. 2. Make sure that the housing springs are working correctly. 3. Make sure that the guide rails are not loose. 4. Verify that the charge roller housing rests completely on the three position pins on the press wall. 5. Make sure that the charge roller housing holding screws allow the charge roller to move to the fully engaged position. 6. If any corrective action was taken above, check for side fog as described in "Checking for side fog on page 1". Charge roller 9
