Without the most recent firmware, loading an Ultrium 4 cartridge into an earlier generation drive may result in a long media identification and unload time. The drive may not identify the media and return a load error before the application software times out waiting for the load. HP strongly recommends keeping your tape drives updated to the most recent firmware. Bar codes HP strongly recommends that each tape cartridge have a proper bar code label. The Library uses the bar code to identify the cartridge in a slot. Determining that an unlabeled cartridge is in a slot takes about four times as long as identifying a properly labeled cartridge. For example, the inventory time for an MSL8096 filled with unlabeled cartridges is about 30 minutes. To order HP bar code labels, see http://www.hp.com/go/storagemedia A proper bar code label includes the Media ID in the last two characters of the bar code. If an Ultrium 4 tape drive is installed in the Library or is in the removed state, the Library will not load a cartridge with an Ultrium 4 Media ID or an unlabeled cartridge into an earlier generation tape drive. Though not recommended, checking Ignore Barcode Media ID in the Remote Management Interface (RMI) Configuration > System screen will keep the Library from interpreting bar code Media IDs. Redundant power option (MSL4048 and MSL8096) All MSL8096 Tape Libraries and newer MSL4048 Tape Libraries can be upgraded with a second power supply, enabling the Library to continue operating if one of the AC power inputs or power supplies fails. Libraries that can be upgraded for redundant power can be identified by a label on the power supply bay cover directly above the first power supply. 11484 To add redundant power capability to the Library, order and install the AH220A Power Supply Upgrade Kit. For correct operation, both power supplies must be AH220A power supplies. CAUTION: When upgrading an MSL4048, verify that the existing power supply is an AH220A power supply, which can be identified by 1 three LEDs near the power supply fan. If it does not have LEDs, 2 replace the existing power supply with an AH220A power 3 supply before installing the second AH220A power supply. 11220

Redundant power option (MSL4048 and MSL8096)
All MSL8096 Tape Libraries and newer MSL4048 Tape Libraries can be upgraded with a second power

Libraries that can be upgraded for redundant power can be
identi

CAUTION:
When upgrading an MSL4048, verify that the existing power
supply is an AH220A power supply, which can be identi
ed by
