Upgrading an Installed System to an SMP IOP System
Having dual processors in the IOP is overkill for the array workload.
The IOP is responsible for the I/O activities which are not processor
intensive.
During installation it is better to install the multi-processor kernel
even if a single processor will be used.
This will not affect the
installation of the Marathon software and will eliminate the need to
upgrade the kernel when an additional processor is added.
If the need arises for upgrading a system from a single processor
kernel to a multi-processor kernel, the User Guide contains detailed
steps to accomplish this task.
Other Upgrade and Downgrade Options
There are three other upgrade and downgrade options in the
Endurance User Guide.
These tasks would be required in only the
rarest circumstances and detailed steps are available in the User
Guide.
