Top cover Description Top cover (includes TouchPad and cable, and caps lock LED board and cable) Spare part number 531852-001 Before removing the top cover, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 47). 5. Remove the following components: a. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 56) b. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 53) c. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 60) d. Keyboard cover (see Keyboard cover on page 63) e. Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 66 Remove the top cover: 1. Close the computer. 2. Turn the computer upside down, with the rear panel toward you. 3. Remove the four Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screws that secure the top cover to the base enclosure. 4. Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you. 5. Disconnect the caps lock LED board cable (1) from the system board. 72 Chapter 4 Removal and replacement procedures

Before removing the top cover, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the
computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
2.
Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
3.
Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and
then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.
4.

5.
Remove the following components:

b.

c.

Remove the top cover:
1.
Close the computer.
2.
Turn the computer upside down, with the rear panel toward you.
3.
Remove the four Phillips PM2.5×7.0 screws that secure the top cover to the base enclosure.
4.
Turn the computer right-side up, with the front toward you.
5.
Disconnect the caps lock LED board cable
(1)
from the system board.
