• iSCSI Acceleration (available on some integrated NICs) offloads some of the work in creating iSCSI packets from the processor onto the network controller, freeing up the processor for other work. • iSCSI boot for Linux® operating systems lets you boot the server from a SAN and eliminates the need for disk drives in a server. HP Tesla Computing Modules For use in HP ProLiant SL390s servers, we support computational accelerator modules based on Nvidia® Tesla™ GPU technology. The following Tesla Computing Modules are available from HP: • HP Tesla M2050 2-Slot Passive Module • HP Tesla M2070 2-Slot Passive Module The Tesla Computing Modules integrate GPU computing with HP ProLiant servers for high-performance computing and large data center, scale-out deployments. The 20-series Tesla GPUs are the first to have a peak performance more than ten times greater than the quad-core x86 CPU and the first to include ECC memory. The Tesla M2050 and M2070 modules give you all the standard benefits of GPU computing with maximum reliability. The modules integrate easily with system monitoring and management tools such as HP Cluster Management Utility (CMU). The HP GPU Ecosystem includes: • HP Cluster Platform specification and qualification • HP supported GPU-aware cluster software • Third-party GPU-aware cluster software for HP Tesla GPU Computing Modules on HP ProLiant Servers In particular, the HP CMU monitors and displays GPU health sensor data such as temperature. CMU will also install and provision the GPU drivers and software. Power and thermal technologies To increase power efficiency without degrading server performance, HP developed high-efficiency common-slot power supplies and power bays for multiple ProLiant server platforms. Like many other ProLiant G6 and G7 servers, the SL6500 Scalable System supports these common-slot power supplies, which have efficiency ratings up to 94 percent. HP ProLiant common-slot power supplies meet multiple Energy Efficiency Initiatives: • Climate Savers Computing Initiative (CSCI) Silver, Gold, and Platinum power efficiency ratings • ECOS Consulting/80PLUS Silver, Gold, and Platinum power efficiency ratings Power supply options For the s6500, there are six power supply options based on wattage, efficiency rating, and input voltage. When choosing power supplies, efficiency is the overall goal. Therefore, we recommend using the HP Power Advisor to identify the best power supply for each SL6500 configuration. With six choices available, Power Advisor can help you choose the option that meets your needs. You can find more information about the HP Power Advisor at www.hp.com/go/hppoweradvisor. Management and deployment The SL6500 Scalable System infrastructure has management capabilities integrated on each server tray. This consists of the Power Management Controller and a Lights-Out processor, either iLO 3 or LO100i. The ProLiant SL6500 Scalable System uses the same SNMP-based Insight Management 9
