Hardware Upgrades Using a CompactFlash Card A CompactFlash card is smaller than a PC Card, but can add similar functions to the tablet PC system. Most commonly, a CompactFlash card is used to add backup, storage, wireless network, fax/modem, or cellular telephone functions. When using a CompactFlash card, Compaq recommends that you connect the system to external power whenever possible. Some CompactFlash cards use large amounts of power and can quickly drain a battery pack. Ä CAUTION: To prevent loss of work or damage to a CompactFlash card: ■ Do not save your work to a CompactFlash card unless the tablet PC is connected to external power or you are certain that the battery pack has enough charge remaining to complete the operation. ■ Do not shut down the tablet PC or remove the CompactFlash card until all activities supported by the card are complete. Selecting a CompactFlash Card The tablet PC supports both Type I and Type II CompactFlash cards. Configuring a CompactFlash Card If a CompactFlash card manufacturer instructs you to install card-specific drivers, be sure to install only the drivers supported by the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition operating system. If you are unsure of driver compatibility, contact the CompactFlash card manufacturer. 9-4 Hardware Guide
