Configuration Problems System Board Switches System Board Switches There are ten system board switches used for configuration, numbered from 1 to 10. A certain number of these are reserved (switches 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and should not be modified, otherwise it could lead to a system failure. Switch 1-5 6 7 8 9 10 Default Position OFF ON OFF OFF OFF OFF Function: Reserved. Do Not Change Default Settings Enables keyboard power-on using the space bar. OFF disables this option. Enables normal modes. ON enables the BIOS recovery mode at next boot. Retains CMOS memory. ON clears CMOS memory at next boot. Enables User and System Administrator passwords. ON clears the passwords at next boot. Selects the chassis type. OFF = desktop NOTE A limited number of early HP Kayak XM600 system boards have 20 configuration switches. Switches 11-20 are reserved and should be set as follows: 12,13,15 and 16 to ON, others to OFF 34
