5 RECEIVE AND TRANSMIT q Select the desired operating channel with [Y]/[Z]. When a signal is received: • " " indicator appears on the display. • Squelch opens and audio is emitted from the speaker. [Y] - Further adjustment of [VOL] may be necessary at this point. [Z] w Push and hold [PTT] to transmit then speak into the microphone. • Do not hold the transceiver too close to your mouth or speak too loudly. This may distort the signal. • The transmit indicator " " appears on the display. e Release [PTT] to return to receive. Appears [PTT] IMPORTANT: To maximize the readability of the transmitted signal, pause a few sec. after pushing [PTT], hold the transceiver 4 to 6 in. (10 to 15 cm) from your mouth and speak at a normal voice level. NOTE: The transceiver has an auto power save function to conserve the battery power. The power save function activates automatically when no signal is received for 5 sec. 10
