Product Description 1.6 Intel® B43 Express Chipset The Intel B43 Express chipset consists of the following devices: • Intel 82B43 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub (GMCH) with Direct Media Interface (DMI) interconnect • Intel 82801JD I/O Controller Hub (ICH10D) The GMCH component provides interfaces to the CPU, memory, and the DMI interconnect. The component also provides integrated graphics capabilities supporting 3D, 2D, and display capabilities. The ICH10D is a centralized controller for the board's I/O paths. Either the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 (Intel GMA 4500) graphics controller (contained within the 82B43 GMCH) is used, or a PCI Express x16 add-in card can be used. When a PCI Express x16 add-in card is installed, the Intel GMA 4500 graphics controller is disabled. 1.6.1.1 Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 Graphics Controller The Intel GMA 4500 graphics controller features the following: • High quality texture engine ⎯ DirectX10* and OpenGL* 2.0 compliant ⎯ Shader Model 4.0 • 3D Graphics Rendering enhancements ⎯ 1.6 dual texture GigaPixel/sec max fill rate ⎯ 16-bit and 32-bit color ⎯ Vertex cache • Video ⎯ Hi-Definition playback (partial hardware acceleration for MPEG-2, full hardware acceleration for VC1 and AVC) ⎯ Dynamic Video Memory Technology (DVMT) 5.0 uses system memory based on the operating system and the amount of memory installed 19

Intel B43 Graphics Subsystem
The Intel B43 Express chipset contains two separate, mutually exclusive graphics
options.
Either the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500 (Intel GMA 4500) graphics
controller (contained within the 82B43 GMCH) is used, or a PCI Express x16 add-in
card can be used.
When a PCI Express x16 add-in card is installed, the Intel GMA
4500 graphics controller is disabled.
