Chapter 2. Using your computer HDD passwords Hard disk passwords help protect the information stored on the hard disk. You need to set a HDD user password, or even a HDD master password (for some model), as the Hard Disk Password. Either of the passwords can be used to access the hard disk. Any change to, or removal of the master password deletes the user password. To set a HDD password: 1 Turn on your computer. Press F1, while the initial screen is displayed. The BIOS Setup Utility screen opens. 2 Select Security, using the cursor directional keys. 3 Select the Set HDD User Password, and press the Enter key. 4 Choose your HDD User Password, which can be from one to eight alphanumeric characters in any combination. Type it in the Enter New Password field. 5 Press the Enter key once to move to the Confirm New Password field. Retype the password you just entered to verify it. 6 Commit any password to memory, and press the Enter key. 7 Press F10 to exit. 8 Select Yes in the Setup Confirmation window. 30

HDD passwords
Hard disk passwords help protect the information stored on the hard disk.
You need to set a HDD user password, or even a HDD master password
(for some model), as the Hard Disk Password. Either of the passwords can
be used to access the hard disk. Any change to, or removal of the master
password deletes the user password.
To set a HDD password:

Turn on your computer. Press
F1
, while the initial screen is displayed.
The BIOS Setup Utility screen opens.

Security

Set HDD User Password
, and press the
Enter
key.

Choose your HDD User Password, which can be from one to eight
alphanumeric characters in any combination. Type it in the

Retype the password you just entered to verify it.
