3. IBM Specific Features 3.1 F11/Enter Key The F11 and Enter Keys cannot have any system specific function during boot. When the F11 or Enter Key is pressed during POST, The key press is saved and reported when Int 15h AX=4200h is called. Int 15 Interface: ; Entry: ax - 4200h ; ; Exit: No Carry Flag - function supported ; - AX = 0001 - F11/Enter was hit ; - AX = 0000 - F11/Enter was not hit ; Carry Flag - function not supported IBM Rescue and recovery with Rapid Restore IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore program is on a separate hard drive partition Attention: Make sure all data is backed up to avoid loss when the IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore program is used. To start the program: 1. If your computer is already on when you start this procedure, shut down the operating system and turn off the computer. 2. Press and hold the F11 key then turn on the computer. When you hear multiple beeps, release the F11 key. Notes: a. If you are using a USB keyboard and the IBM Setup Utility does not open using this method, press and release the F11 key repeatedly rather than holding it pressed when turning on the computer. b. If a user password or an administrator password has been set, IBM Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore menu is not displayed until you type the password. 3. If you get a message asking which operating system to install, select the operating system, and press Enter. 4. A message is displayed :"Full Recovery :". Press Enter to select. 5. On each of the next three windows, press the Y key. 6. Follow the prompts to complete the recovery. Restoring the pre-installed system When the hard disk drive is replaced because of a failure, no Product Recovery program is on the new hard disk. In this case, you must use the recovery CD for the computer. Order the recovery CD and the hard disk drive at the same time so that you can recover the new hard disk drive with the pre-installed software when they arrive.
