Using MFP menus Menu item Purpose Values and descriptions NPA Mode Specifies whether the MFP performs the special processing required for bidirectional communication, following the conventions defined in the Network Printing Alliance (NPA) Protocol. Note: Changing this menu item automatically resets the MFP. It is reset to configure memory, and any permanent resources, such as fonts or macros, are lost. On Off Auto* The MFP performs NPA processing. If data is not in NPA format, it is rejected as bad data. The MFP does not perform NPA processing. The MFP examines data, determines the format, and then processes it appropriately. Parallel Buffer Configures the size of the parallel input buffer. Note: Changing this menu item automatically resets the MFP. It is reset to configure memory, and any permanent resources, such as fonts or macros, are lost. Disabled Auto* Disables job buffering. Any jobs already buffered on the hard disk are printed before normal processing of incoming jobs resumes. The MFP automatically calculates the Parallel Buffer size (recommended setting). 3K to maximum size allowed (1K increments) The user specifies the Parallel Buffer size. The maximum size depends on the amount of memory in the MFP, the size of the other link buffers, and whether Resource Save is set to On or Off. To maximize the range for the Parallel Buffer size, disable or reduce the size of the serial and USB buffers. Job Buffering This menu item only appears when a formatted hard disk is installed. Temporarily stores jobs on the MFP hard disk before printing. Note: Changing this menu item automatically resets the MFP. It is reset to configure memory, and any permanent resources, such as fonts or macros, are lost. Off* On Auto Does not buffer print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs to the hard disk. Buffers print jobs only if the MFP is busy processing data from another input port. Advanced Status Enables bidirectional Off communication through the parallel port. On* Disables parallel port negotiation. Enables bidirectional communication through the parallel interface. Protocol Specifies the parallel interface protocol. Standard May resolve some parallel interface problems. Fastbytes* Provides compatibility with most existing parallel interface implementations (recommended setting). Honor Init Determines whether the MFP Off* honors hardware initialization requests from the computer. The computer requests initialization by activating the INIT signal on the On parallel interface. Many personal computers activate the INIT signal each time the computer is turned on and off. The MFP does not honor hardware initialization requests from the computer. The MFP honors hardware initialization requests from the computer. Network/Ports 36
