The first digit in the Location field defines the adapter that the port is associated with. The 2nd digit defines the channel. 1 . 0 Channel Adapter In the example above, 1.0 means the hard drive is attached to Adapter 1, Channel 0. The following is a list of all possible combinations: Serial ATA 1.0 Controller 1, Channel 0 (SATA1) 1.1 Controller 1, Channel 1 (SATA2) 2.0 Controller 2, Channel 0 (SATA3) 2.1 Controller 2, Channel 1 (SATA4) 3.0 Controller 3, Channel 0 (SATA5) 3.1 Controller 3, Channel 1 (SATA6) Important There is no such thing as Slave drive in Serial ATA. All drives are considered to be Master since there is a one to one connection between the drive and the c o nt r o lle r . B-4
