Important Notes When Switching between Application PCs in HA Configuration

Page 61 highlights

Chapter 6 - Installing the High Availability (HA) Configuration 55 Important: Make sure that only one Application Server (Primary or Secondary) is operational at any time. If any of the corresponding services are active on more than one Application Server, the duplication will interfere with the correct operation of MSP. If and when the need arises, the secondary server must be brought online manually to resume the functionality of the MSP server and to use the web-based Console UI to create and send any new content to Devices. Important Notes When Switching between Application PCs in HA Configuration The one additional manual change that may be needed when bringing the secondary application PC online is dependent upon whether Data Collection and Analysis is being used. If it is used, each of the Relay Servers defined in the MSP system must be edited to use the unique GUID of the Control Collection Service on the secondary PC (Figure 50). Until this value is changed no data will be collected from those Relay Servers. Figure 50 There is NO means provided to automate the switchover between the primary and secondary applications servers. There also is no built-in facility for the secondary application server to detect that the primary has gone down. Motorola does not directly support any attempts to externally implement such a mechanism. 55

Important:
Make sure that only one Application Server (Primary or Secondary) is operational at any time. If
any of the corresponding services are active on more than one Application Server, the duplication
will interfere with the correct operation of MSP.
If and when the need arises, the secondary server must be brought online
manually
to resume
the functionality of the MSP server and to use the web-based Console UI to create and send any
new content to Devices.
Important Notes When Switching between Application
PCs in HA Configuration
The one additional manual change that may be needed when bringing the secondary application
PC online is dependent upon whether Data Collection and Analysis is being used. If it is used,
each of the Relay Servers defined in the MSP system must be edited to use the unique GUID of
the Control Collection Service on the secondary PC (Figure 50). Until this value is changed no
data will be collected from those Relay Servers.

applications servers. There also is no built-in facility for the secondary application server to detect
that the primary has gone down. Motorola does not directly support any attempts to externally
implement such a mechanism.
