3 Start the timer. Press the shutter-release button all the way down to start the timer. The self-timer lamp (AF-assist illuminator) will start to blink and a beep will begin to sound. Two seconds before the photograph is taken, the self-timer lamp will stop blinking and the beeping will become more rapid. Raising the flash interrupts the timer. To restart, wait until the flash-ready indicator is displayed in the viewfinder and press k the shutter-release button halfway. To turn the self-timer off before a photograph is taken, turn the release mode dial to another setting. AA In self-timer mode, a shutter speed of A is equivalent to approximately 1/10 s. A See Also For information on changing the timer duration, see Custom Setting c3 ([Self-timer delay], pg. 280).
