Shooting Options: The Shooting Menu G AF Area Mode Choose where the camera focuses. When digital zoom is effect, the camera will focus on the subject in the center of the screen regardless of the applied AF area mode option. z Face priority The camera detects and focuses on a face looking toward the camera (Shooting with Face Priority ➝ A145). If the camera detects multiple faces, the camera focuses on the face closest to the camera. When shooting pictures of subjects other than people, or framing a subject with which no face is recognized, AF area mode will be set to Auto. The camera chooses the focus area (one of nine) containing the subject closest to the camera and focuses on the subject. • When the monitor has been turned off, the camera focuses using only the center focus area. w Auto (default setting) Camera automatically selects the focus area (one of nine) containing the subject closest to the camera. Press the shutter-release button halfway to activate the focus area. When the shutter-release button is pressed halfway, the focus area selected by the camera will be displayed in the monitor. • When the monitor has been turned off, the camera focuses using only the center focus area. x Manual Choose the focus position from 99 areas in the screen. This option is suited to situations in which the intended subject is relatively still and not positioned in the center of the frame. Press the multi selector HIJK to select from the focus areas displayed on the screen, move the focus to that position and shoot the subject. To end focus area selection and adjust the flash mode, focus mode, self-timer and exposure compensation settings, press the k button.
