Flash shooting You can select a flash mode appropriate to the light conditions and the effect you want to achieve. You can also adjust the amount of light emitted using the flash intensity control. ~P. 57 The flash modes are as follows: Auto-flash (No indication) Automatically fires in low-light and backlight conditions. Shooting basics Red-eye reduction flash The light from the flash may make the subject's eyes appear red in the 3 picture. The red-eye reduction flash mode significantly reduces this phenomenon by emitting pre-flashes before firing the regular flash. This helps accustom the subject's eyes The subject's eyes appear red. to the bright light and minimizes the red-eye phenomenon. • After the pre-flash, it takes approximately 1 second before the shutter is released. Hold the camera firmly after the pre-flash to prevent Note camera movement. • Effectiveness may be limited if the subject is not looking directly at the pre-flashes, or if the shooting range is too far. Individual physical characteristics, such as light-colored eyes, may also limit effectiveness. Fill-in flash The flash fires regardless of available light. This mode is useful for eliminating shadows on the subject's face or for correcting the color shift produced by artificial lighting (especially fluorescent light). • Fill-in flash may not have the desired effect under excessively bright light.
