Displaying Source Information You can display various information about the current input source as follows. 1 Press RECEIVER once followed by DISPLAY repeatedly to cycle through the available information. Tip • Alternatively, you can use the AV receiver's DISPLAY. The following information can typically be displayed. Input source & volume*1 Listening mode Signal format*2 or sampling frequency *1 When AM or FM radio is used, the band, frequency, and preset number are displayed. *2 If the input signal is digital, the signal format is displayed. Information is displayed for about three seconds, then the previously displayed information reappears. Changing the Input Display When you connect an V-capable Onkyo component, you must configure the input display so that V can work properly. 1 Change the name of the input selector to "DOCK" or "TAPE". Tip • See "Name" in "8. Source Setup" for changing the name (➔ page 44). Note • "DOCK" and "TAPE" cannot be selected for the input selector at the same time. • Enter the appropriate remote control code before using the remote controller for the first time (➔ page 54). Using the Music Optimizer The Music Optimizer function enhances the sound quality of compressed music files. 1 Press MUSIC OPTIMIZER on the front panel. The M.Opt indicator lights on the AV receiver's display. Tip • Alternatively, you can use the remote controller's HOME. • See "Music Optimizer" for more details (➔ page 48). Turning On & Basic Operations Using Headphones 1 Connect a pair of stereo headphones with a standard plug (1/4 inch or 6.3 mm) to the PHONES jack. Note • Always turn down the volume before connecting your headphones. • While the headphones plug is inserted in the PHONES jack, the speakers are turned off. (The Zone 2 speakers are not turned off.) • When you connect a pair of headphones, the listening mode is set to Stereo, unless it's already set to Stereo, Mono, or Direct. • If you connect an iPod or iPhone to the USB port on the AV receiver, no sound will be output from the headphones jack. Recording This section explains how to record the selected input source to a component with recording capability. AV Recording Audio sources can be recorded to a recorder (e.g., cassette tape deck, CDR, MD recorder). Video sources can be recorded to a video recorder (e.g., VCR, DVD recorder). 1 Use the input selector buttons to select the source that you want to record. You can watch the source while recording. The AV receiver's MASTER VOLUME control has no effect on recording. 2 On your recorder, start recording. 3 On the source component, start playback. Turning On & Basic Operations

You can display various information about the current

AV Recording
Audio sources can be recorded to a recorder (e.g., cassette
tape deck, CDR, MD recorder). Video sources can be
recorded to a video recorder (e.g., VCR, DVD recorder).
Displaying Source Information

Using Headphones

Connect a pair of stereo headphones with a
standard plug (1/4 inch or 6.3 mm) to the
PHONES
jack.
Note
Always turn down the volume before connecting your
headphones.
While the headphones plug is inserted in the
PHONES
jack, the speakers are turned off. (The Zone 2 speakers are
not turned off.)
When you connect a pair of headphones, the listening mode
is set to Stereo, unless it’s already set to Stereo, Mono, or
Direct.
If you connect an iPod or iPhone to the
USB
port on the AV
receiver, no sound will be output from the headphones jack.
Recording

Use the input selector buttons to select the source
that you want to record.
You can watch the source while recording. The AV
receiver’s
