3-7. CHARGE THE BATTERY PACK The supplied Ni-Cd battery pack is not charged. It is important that this battery is charged for 12 to 16 hours continuously without any interruption before you use the handset for the first time. During this initial charging of the supplied battery pack or a new battery pack for replacement, locate the telephone where it can remain completely undisturbed and untouched. Do not hook the base up to a telephone line for the initial charging sequence. After installing the battery pack, place the handset on the base unit and the charger respectively. The CHARGE LED lights during charging. If the CHARGE LED does not light, make sure that the AC adaptor is plugged in and the handset is correctly placed on the base unit. Notes • The battery pack is not charged properly if the charging contacts are dirty or tarnished. Clean the contacts occasionally with a dry cloth. • The supplied rechargeable battery pack should last for several years. It, however, eventually it will deteriorated and lasts only for short time even if it is charged. If this happens, you need to replace it with a new one. SETTING THE DIGITAL SECURITY CODE The Digital Security Code is automatically set when you charge the handset on the base unit. When using the handset initially or replacing the battery, you must place both handsets on the base unit to set the same Digital Security Code.
