CAUTION • Keep your fingers clear of the disc as it is spinning. Neglecting to may cause serious personal injury. • Be careful not to catch your fingers in the disc holder. • Do not use a cracked, deformed, or repaired disc. • Do not tilt, shake or move the main unit while playing. It may damage the disc. DVD-V VCD CD Basic playback Changing to the DVD mode The LCD TV/DVD combination can be switched to TV mode, DVD mode etc. and used. To play back a DVD video disc, VIDEO CD or AUDIO CD, switch to the DVD mode. INPUT SELECT Press the INPUT SELECT button repeatedly to select the DVD mode. • For information on how to open the LCD monitor and how to remove a disc, see page 19 . 1 Open the disc cover. Press OPEN on the main unit. OPEN The disc cover opens. TV DVD COMPONENT S-VIDEO VIDEO The disc cover will not open over a certain range. Do not force the cover open further, as it may cause damage to the unit. When you switch to the DVD mode, a screen similar to the following screen is displayed. 2 Set a disc. DVD Shows that it is in the DVD mode • By pressing the PLAY button, you can also switch to the DVD mode. Place a disc with the playback side down, and push gently on the center of the disc to affix it to the spindle. 3 Close the disc cover. Press CLOSE on the right corner. 4 Start playback. PLAY/PAUSE Press PLAY. 34 PLAY If you select a DVD video disc that contains a top menu, or select a PBC (Playback Control)featured VIDEO CD ( 9 ), a menu may appear. See "Locating a title using the top menu". 40 • You may need to press the TOP MENU or MENU button to display the disc menu (depending on the actual DVD video disc.)

Basic playback
Changing to the DVD mode
The LCD TV/DVD combination can be switched to TV
mode, DVD mode etc. and used.
To play back a DVD video disc, VIDEO CD or AUDIO
CD, switch to the DVD mode.
Press the
INPUT SELECT
button
repeatedly to select the DVD mode.
When you switch to the DVD mode, a screen similar to
the following screen is displayed.
By pressing the PLAY button, you can also switch to
the DVD mode.
Open the disc cover.
Press OPEN on the main unit.
The disc cover opens.
The disc cover will not open over a certain range.
Do not force the cover open further, as it may
cause damage to the unit.
Set a disc.
Place a disc with the playback side down, and
push gently on the center of the disc to affix it to
the spindle.
Close the disc cover.
Press CLOSE on the right corner.
Start playback.
Press PLAY.
If you select a DVD video disc that contains a top
menu, or select a PBC (Playback Control)-
featured VIDEO CD (

), a menu may appear.
