MY BOOK DUO USER MANUAL 19 Using the Device with a Mac The My Book device drives are formatted as single NTFS partitions for compatibility with updated Windows operating systems. To use the device on Mac OS X operating systems, and to use Time Machine, if you want, you must reformat the device drives to single HFS+J partitions. This chapter includes the following topics: Reformatting the Device Drives Restoring the WD Software and Disk Image Reformatting the Device Drives CAUTION! Reformatting the device drives erases all their contents. If you have already saved files on the device, be sure to back them up before reformatting it. Go to http://support.wd.com and refer to Knowledge Base answer ID 3865 for information about reformatting the device drives. See "Troubleshooting" on page 72 for more information about reformatting the device drives. Restoring the WD Software and Disk Image After you have reformatted your device drives for use on Mac computers, go to http://support.wd.com and see Knowledge Base answer ID 7 for information about downloading and restoring the Mac versions of the WD Drive Utilities software and disk image.
