INTRODUCTIOIN PREPARATIONS PLAYBACK APPENDIX TROUBLESHOOTING If this unit fails to operate normally, check the following points to determine whether the fault can be corrected, or if the fault is not listed in the PROBLEM column, disconnect the power code and contact your authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center. s General PROBLEM This unit fails to turn on when the POWER switch is pressed. POSSIBLE CAUSE The power cord is not connected or the plug is not completely inserted. The voltage selector on the rear panel is not set to the proper position. This unit does not work normally. Playback does not start. This unit is affected by an external shock (lightning, excessive static electricity, incorrect operation, etc.) The disc is damaged. There is moisture on the laser pickup. No picture. The disc has been loaded upside down. The disc is dirty. Incorrect video connections. This unit's video input is not selected at the video monitor. Play is delayed, or starts at the wrong place. This unit does not recognize discs ('No disc' appears on the display, or the display shows the status when no disc is loaded). No sound. The disc may be scratched or damaged. The disc(s) is not placed properly. Incorrect output cable connections. Incorrect amplifier operation. Sound distorted. Sound 'skips'. Sound 'hums'. V.S.S effect is emphasized too much. This unit is being subjected to vibrations or impacts. The disc is dirty. Incorrect cable connections. Noise from a nearby tuner. Noise from inside of the unit. The remote control does not work. The tuner is too close to the unit. The disc maybe warped. The batteries are weak. Direct sunlight or lighting (from an inverter type of fluorescent lamp, etc.) is striking the remote control sensor of this unit. WHAT TO DO Firmly connect the power cord. Refer to Page - Disconnect the power cord and set the - selector to the position for your local main voltage. Turn the power off and disconnect the power - cord. After about 30 seconds have passed, connect the power and operate the unit again. Check the disc carefully; replace it if - necessary. Wait 20 to 30 minutes after switching the unit - ON before trying to play a disc. Reload the disc with the label side facing up. 13 Clean the disc. 3 Connect this unit and other equipment 10 properly. Set the video input at the video monitor to the - position where this unit is connected (e.g. VCR2). Check the disc carefully; replace it if - necessary. Place the disc(s) correctly along the guide(s). - Connect the cables properly. If the problem 9 persists, the cables may be defective. Set the amplifier controls to the correct input - selection. Turn V.S.S. off. 24 Relocate the unit. - Clean the disc. 3 Securely connect the audio cables. If the 9 problem persists, the cables may be defective.
