Appendix TROUBLESHOOTING Refer to the chart below when the MCX-1000 does not appear to be functioning correctly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed below or if the instructions listed next to the problem do not help, set the MCX-1000 to standby mode, disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet, and contact the nearest authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center. SYMPTOM The MCX-1000 does not turn on when you press STANDBY/ON. The MCX-1000 does not play CDs. The MCX-1000 cannot store CDs. The MCX-1000 cannot record songs to a CD-R/CD-RW. The MCX-1000 will not record songs longer than 100 minutes in duration on its hard disk drive. There is a pause starting playback of songs when the MCX-1000 is connected to an amplifier via a coaxial or optical connection. CD-Rs made on the MCX-1000 will not playback correctly on other CD or DVD players. Sound from the MCX-1000 skips during playback. The MCX-1000 does not operate normally. You can hear the sound of a fan coming from the MCX-1000. CAUSE The MusicCAST power plug is not inserted into the AC outlet correctly. There is condensation on the laser pickup lens. The CD is loaded upside-down in the disc tray. The CD is dirty. There is no space remaining on the hard disk drive. The CD-R/CD-RW loaded in the MCX-1000 is dirty or scratched. During the storage process the MCX-1000 was disconnected from AC power, or was turned off. The CD-R/CD-RW loaded in the MCX-1000 is finalized. The CD-R/CD-RW loaded in the MCX-1000 already has data recorded on it. The CD-R/CD-RW loaded in the MCX-1000 is dirty or scratched. During the recording process the MCX-1000 was disconnected from AC power, or was turned off. The maximum length for a single song is 99 minutes and 59 seconds. The MCX-1000 is playing back tracks recorded with differing emphasis settings. The CD or DVD player you are using is not capable of playing CD-Rs/ CD-RWs. Either the MCX-1000 or the source component is being shaken or vibrated. The CD is dirty. The system controller has stopped. The internal temperature of the MCX-1000 is rising. REMEDY Insert the power plug firmly into an AC outlet. Turn off the power, wait 20 or 30 minutes, and then turn power on again. Load the CD in the disc tray label side up. Clean the CD. Delete songs that you do not need, to make space on the hard disk drive. Clean or replace the CD-R/CD-RW. For CD-Rs, replace the CD-R with a new disc. For CD-RWs, initialize the disc and then record it again. Load a blank recordable CD-R/CD-RW into the disc tray. For CD-Rs, replace the CD-R with a new disc. For CD-RWs, initialize the disc and then record it again. Clean or replace the CD-R/CD-RW. The MCX-1000 begins recording a new song after recording for 99 minutes and 59 seconds, regardless of the recording mode set. Connect the analog outputs on the MCX-1000 to the amplifier. Use a CD / DVD player capable of playing back CD-Rs/CD-RWs. Change the location of your components (unless the source recording was affected by vibrations or shocks). Clean the disc. Press and hold the STANDBY/ON button on the front panel for at least 15 seconds. The internal fan in the MCX-1000 activates when the internal temperature of the unit rises. This is not a malfunction.
