SOUND FIELD PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS SOUND FIELD PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS This unit is equipped with a variety of precise digital decoders that allow you to enjoy multi-channel playback from almost any sound source (stereo or multi-channel). This unit is also equipped with a YAMAHA digital sound field processing (DSP) chip containing several sound field programs which you can use to enhance your playback experience. Most of these sound field programs are precise digital recreations of actual acoustic environments found in famous concert halls, music venues, and movie theaters. y The YAMAHA CINEMA DSP modes are compatible with all Dolby Digital, DTS, and Dolby Surround sources. Set the input mode to AUTO (see page 36) to enable this unit to automatically switch to the appropriate digital decoder according to the input signal. Notes • This unit's DSP sound field programs are recreations of real-world acoustic environments made from precise measurements taken in the actual hall, etc. Thus you may notice variations in the strength of the reflections coming from the front, back, left and right. • Feel free to choose a sound field program based on your listening preference, and not purely on the name of the program itself. For movie/video sources You can select from the following sound fields when playing movie or video sources. The sound fields marked "MULTI" can be used with multi-channel sources, like DVD, digital TV, etc. Those marked "2-CH" can be used with 2-channel (stereo) sources like TV programs, video tapes, etc. Program selection methods vary depending on sound field program types. For details on how to select sound field programs, see "Selecting sound field programs" on pages 32 to 36. Remote control button Program Features Sources STEREO: 1 2ch Stereo Downmixes multi-channel sources to 2 channel (left and right) or plays back 2-channel sources as is. MUSIC: 2 POP/ROCK This program lends an enthusiastic atmosphere to the sound, giving you the feeling you are at an actual jazz or rock concert. ENTERTAINMENT: Though the presence sound field is relatively narrow, the surround sound field employs the TV Sports sound environment of a large concert hall. This effect enhances the experience of watching various TV programs such as news, variety shows, music programs or sports programs. MULTI 2-CH ENTERTAINMENT: This program is provided for reproducing monaural video sources (such as old movies). The 3 Mono Movie program produces the optimum reverberation to create sound depth using only the presence sound field.
