TROUBLESHOOTING TROUBLESHOOTING Refer to the chart below when this unit does not function properly. If the problem you are experiencing is not listed below or if the instruction below does not help, set this unit to the standby mode, disconnect the power cord, and contact the nearest authorized YAMAHA dealer or service center. ■ General Problem This unit fails to turn on when STANDBY/ ON (or SYSTEM POWER) is pressed, or enters the standby mode soon after the power has been turned on. On-screen display does not appear. No sound No picture Cause The power cord is not connected or the plug is not completely inserted. The impedance setting is incorrect. The protection circuitry has been activated. This unit has been exposed to a strong external electric shock (such as lightning or strong static electricity). The setting for the on-screen display is set to "DISPLAY OFF". "GRAY BACK" in SET MENU is set to OFF, and no video signal is currently being received. Incorrect input or output cable connections. The optimizer microphone is connected. The input mode is set to DTS or ANALOG. No appropriate input source has been selected. Speaker connections are not secure. The front speakers to be used have not been selected properly. The volume is turned down. The sound is muted. The input mode is set to ANALOG while playing a source encoded with a DTS signal. Signals this unit cannot reproduce are being received from a source component, such as a CD-ROM. The output and input for the picture are connected to different types of video jacks. Remedy Connect the power cord firmly. Set the impedance to match your speakers. Make sure all speaker wire connections on this unit and on all speakers are secure and that the wire for each connection does not touch anything other than its respective connection. Set this unit in the standby mode, disconnect the power cord, plug it back in after 30 seconds, then use it normally. Select the full display or short display mode. Set "GRAY BACK" to AUTO to always show the OSD. Connect the cables properly. If the problem persists, the cables may be defective. Disconnect the optimizer microphone. Select AUTO. Select an appropriate input source with INPUT, MULTI CH INPUT (or MULTI CH IN on the remote control) or the input selector buttons. Secure the connections. Select the front speakers with SPEAKERS A and/or B. Turn up the volume. Press MUTE or any operation button of this unit to resume audio output, then adjust the volume. Set the input mode to AUTO or DTS. Play a source whose signals can be reproduced by this unit. Turn on the video conversion function.
