Chapter 8 WAN Table 16 Network > WAN > Internet Connection: IPoE Encapsulation (continued) LABEL Service Provider IPv6 Prefix length IPv4 mask length DNS Server First DNS Server Second DNS Server Third DNS Server DESCRIPTION Enter the IPv6 prefix length. An IPv6 prefix length specifies how many most significant bits (starting from the left) in the address compose the network address. Enter the subnet mask number (1~32) for the IPv4 network. Select Obtained From ISP if your ISP dynamically assigns DNS server information (and the EMG3425-Q10A's WAN IP address). The field to the right displays the (read-only) DNS server IP address that the ISP assigns. Select User-Defined if you have the IP address of a DNS server. Enter the DNS server's IP address in the field to the right. WAN MAC Address Factory default Clone the computer's MAC address - IP Address Set WAN MAC Address IPv6 Address Obtain an IP Address Automatically Static IP Address IPv6 Address Prefix length IPv6 Default Gateway IPv6 DNS server Select None if you do not want to configure DNS servers. If you do not configure a DNS server, you must know the IP address of a computer in order to access it. The MAC address section allows users to configure the WAN port's MAC address by using the EMG3425-Q10A's MAC address, copying the MAC address from a computer on your LAN or manually entering a MAC address. Select Factory default to use the factory assigned default MAC Address. Select Clone the computer's MAC address - IP Address and enter the IP address of the computer on the LAN whose MAC you are cloning. Select this option and enter the MAC address you want to use. This is not available when you select IPv4 Only in the IPv6/IPv4 field. Select this if you want to obtain an IPv6 address from a DHCPv6 server. Select this if you have a fixed IPv6 address assigned by your ISP. Enter the IPv6 address assigned by your ISP. Enter the address prefix length to specify how many most significant bits in an IPv6 address compose the network address. Enter the IP address of the next-hop gateway. The gateway is a router or switch on the same segment as your EMG3425-Q10A's interface(s). The gateway helps forward packets to their destinations. This is not available when you select IPv4 Only in the IPv6/IPv4 field. Obtain IPv6 DNS Select this to have the EMG3425-Q10A get the IPv6 DNS server addresses from the ISP info Automatically automatically. Use the following Static DNS IPv6 Address Select this to have the EMG3425-Q10A use the IPv6 DNS server addresses you configure manually. IPv6 DNS Server Enter the IPv6 DNS server address assigned by the ISP. Apply Click Apply to save your changes back to the EMG3425-Q10A. Cancel Click Cancel to begin configuring this screen afresh. 8.4.1.2 PPPoE Encapsulation The EMG3425-Q10A supports PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet). PPPoE is an IETF standard (RFC 2516) specifying how a personal computer (PC) interacts with a broadband modem EMG3425-Q10A User's Guide 63
