Static MAC Settings

Chapter 7 MAC Management • If the Switch has not already learned the port for this MAC address, then the frame is flooded to all ports. Too much port flooding leads to network congestion. • If the Switch has already learned the port for this MAC address, but the destination port is the same as the port it came in on, then it filters the frame. Figure 29 MAC Table Flowchart 7.4 Static MAC Settings A static Media Access Control (MAC) address is an address that has been manually entered in the MAC address table. Static MAC addresses do not age out. When you set up static MAC address rules, you are setting static MAC addresses for a port. This may reduce the need for broadcasting.
