Flash Photography Metered Manual Flash Exposure For closeup flash photography, you can set the flash exposure manually. With an EX-series Speedlite having a manual flash mode, follow the procedure below: 1 Set the camera and Speedlite settings. Set the camera's shooting mode to or . Set the Speedlite to manual flash. 2 Focus the subject. Focus manually. 3 Aim the center spot metering circle over the subject, then press the button (8). X The Speedlite will fire a preflash and the required flash output is retained in memory. If you set the camera's shooting mode to manual or aperture-priority AE, you can adjust the aperture and fire the flash at full output. Meanwhile, the Speedlite will remain in the TTL or ATTL autoflash mode. When the 580EX or 550EX is set to C.Fn-03-1, the flash will always be fired at full output even in the TTL autoflash mode. 113

With TTL and A-TTL autoflash Speedlites (EZ-, E-, EG-, ML-, TL-
series) set in the TTL or A-TTL autoflash mode, the flash will be fired
only at full output. If you set the camera’s shooting mode to manual
or aperture-priority AE, you can adjust the aperture and fire the flash
at full output. Meanwhile, the Speedlite will remain in the TTL or A-
TTL autoflash mode.
When the 580EX or 550EX is set to C.Fn-03-1, the flash will always
be fired at full output even in the TTL autoflash mode.
