Preparing the Camera, Basic Functions • If the orange or yellow indicator blinks while you press halfway, you can still press fully to take the shot. • Images are first saved into the camera's internal memory before being recorded onto the CF card, allowing the next images to be taken immediately as long as sufficient space is available in the internal memory. • The beep and shutter sound can be set On / Off in the Set up menu (p. 178). • When the shutter sound is set to Off, but the beep is set to On, one beep will sound when the shutter button is fully pressed. • There is no shutter sound in movie mode. • Shots cannot be taken while the flash is charging. AF-Assist Beam • The AF-assist beam will sometimes emit when the shutter button is pressed halfway to assist focusing in certain conditions, i.e. dark conditions. • The AF-assist beam can be turned off (p. 175). If animals are your subject, turn off the beam when shooting in the dark to avoid startling them. However, please keep in mind the following facts. - Turning the AF-assist beam off may make it more difficult for the camera to focus. - The red-eye reduction lamp may emit when you press the shutter button halfway even if the AF-assist beam is turned off. In order to prevent any lamp from emitting before the flash fires, set both the red-eye reduction function and the AF-assist beam to [Off] in the Shooting menu. 41
