Compaq worked closely with Intel and Corollary for three years to perfect the 8-way symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) architecture so that the processors, memory, and I/O subsystem work in harmony to deliver breakthrough levels of performance. Figure 1 illustrates the architecture used in the ProLiant 8000 server.
