AVR 1650/AVR 165 Appendix Table A9 - Surround Modes (cont.) Surround Mode DTS Digital Description Incoming Bitstream or Signal Using a different encoding/decoding method from Dolby Digital, DTS Digital also provides up to five discrete main channels, plus an LFE channel. s DTS 1/0/.0 or .1, 2/0/.0 or .1, 3/0/.0 or .1, 3/1/.0 or .1, 2/2/.0 or .1, 3/2/.0 or .1 s DTS-ES Matrix (played as 5.1) s DTS-ES Discrete (played as 5.1) DTS-HD DTS-HD is a high-definition audio format that complements the high-definition video found on Blu-ray Disc and HD-DVD discs. It is transmitted using a DTS core with high-resolution extensions. Even when only DTS 5.1 surround sound is desired (or available, if the multizone system is in use), the higher capacity of high-resolution discs serves up DTS at twice the bit rate used on DVD-Video discs. s Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD discs encoded with DTS-HD modes, delivered via HDMI connection DTS-HD Master Audio DTS-HD Master Audio technology delivers bit-for-bit reproductions of studio master s Blu-ray Disc or HD-DVD discs encoded with DTS-HD Master recordings for an incredibly accurate performance. Audio technology, delivered via HDMI connection DTS Stereo Logic 7 Mode Group Logic 7 Movie Logic 7 Music Logic 7 Game 5-Channel Stereo 2-Channel Stereo Delivers a 2-channel downmix of DTS Digital materials or presents a matrixencoded surround presentation. s DTS 1/0/.0 or .1, 2/0/.0 or .1, 3/0/.0 or .1, 3/1/.0 or .1, 2/2/.0 or .1, 3/2/.0 or .1 s DTS 96/24 s DTS-ES Matrix A Harman proprietary technology, Logic 7 technology enhances two-channel and matrix-encoded recordings by deriving separate information for the surround back channels. It provides more accurate placement of sound, improves panning and expands the sound field, even when used with 5.1-channel systems. Logic 7 technology uses 96kHz processing and is available in 5.1 mode. Three variants are available. See below Especially suited to two-channel sources containing Dolby Surround or matrix encoding, Logic 7 Movie mode increases center-channel intelligibility. s Analog (two-channel) s Tuner s PCM (32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz) The AVR is programmed at the factory to default to this mode for twochannel signals. Logic 7 Music mode is well suited to conventional twochannel music recordings. s Analog (two-channel) s Tuner s PCM (32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz) Use Logic 7 Game mode to enhance enjoyment of video-game consoles. s Analog (two-channel) s Tuner s PCM (32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz) Useful for parties, the left- and right-channel information is played through both the front and surround speakers on each side, while the center speaker plays a summed mono mix. s Analog (two-channel) s Tuner s PCM (32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz) Turns off all surround processing and plays a pure 2-channel signal or a downmix of a multichannel signal. The signal is digitized and bass management settings are applied, making it appropriate when a subwoofer is used. s Analog (two-channel; DSP downmix available for multichannel) s Tuner s PCM (32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz, 96kHz) 32
