Considerations for downgrading the firmware version, Upgrading SSCM

Page 4 highlights

You can use the Simple SAN Connection Manager (SSCM) application, the switch QuickTools application, or the switch Command Line Interface (CLI) to install new firmware. Install firmware on one switch at a time in the fabric. If you are installing firmware on more than one switch, wait two minutes after the activation is complete before installing firmware on another switch. If you use SSCM to install firmware, the timing of the firmware installation is automatic. For more information on upgrading firmware versions, see the HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch Installation and Reference Guide or the HP StorageWorks Simple SAN Connection Manager User Guide, which are both available at the HP website http://www.hp.com/go/8Gb-SSC. Considerations for downgrading the firmware version Consider the following before downgrading firmware: • If you have an SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch, this firmware release is the minimum required version, and a downgrade is not supported. • Downgrading the firmware to a previous version is a disruptive operation. You must prepare at- tached devices for this disruption during the downgrade operation. • If you are downgrading to firmware earlier than 8.0.2.02.00, you must first change any ports configured as TR to GL using QuickTools or the CLI. After the firmware has been downgraded, only the CLI can be used to change a port configured as TR. • HP recommends that you back up the switch configuration, in case a failure occurs. For more information, see the HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch QuickTools Switch Management User Guide or in the HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch Command Line Interface Guide. NOTE: All SN6000 Fibre Channel Switches and 8/20q Fibre Channel Switches in the same fabric must use the same firmware version. Two successive switch firmware versions can be used in a fabric temporarily while updating switch firmware. Do not enable any new switch features until the firmware upgrade is complete. Upgrading SSCM SSCM software is included with the purchase of a switch. Current owners of an HP 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch can download HP SSCM 3.00 from HP to upgrade their SSCM software. NOTE: Upgrades to future versions of SSCM software will be available only to customers who have purchased a software support contract for SSCM. 1. Go to the HP website http://www.software.hp.com/kiosk. 2. In the login window User name box, enter SSCM_3X_KIOSK, in the password box, enter s3*S#M1$, and then click OK. 3. Select the product link, and then click Receive for Free. 4. In the Software specification box, select the software to download, complete the form, and then click Next. 5. Download the SSCM software. 4

Considerations for downgrading the firmware version
Consider the following before downgrading firmware:
If you have an SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch, this firmware release is the minimum required
version, and a downgrade is not supported.
Downgrading the firmware to a previous version is a disruptive operation. You must prepare at-
tached devices for this disruption during the downgrade operation.
If you are downgrading to firmware earlier than 8.0.2.02.00, you must first change any ports
configured as TR to GL using QuickTools or the CLI. After the firmware has been downgraded,
only the CLI can be used to change a port configured as TR.
HP recommends that you back up the switch configuration, in case a failure occurs. For more in-
formation, see the
HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch QuickTools Switch Management
User Guide
or in the
HP StorageWorks 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch Command Line Interface
Guide
.
NOTE:
All SN6000 Fibre Channel Switches and 8/20q Fibre Channel Switches in the same fabric must use
the same firmware version. Two successive switch firmware versions can be used in a fabric temporarily
while updating switch firmware. Do not enable any new switch features until the firmware upgrade
is complete.
Upgrading SSCM
SSCM software is included with the purchase of a switch. Current owners of an HP 8/20q Fibre
Channel Switch can download HP SSCM 3.00 from HP to upgrade their SSCM software.
NOTE:
Upgrades to future versions of SSCM software will be available only to customers who have purchased
a software support contract for SSCM.
