Turning the TouchPad off or on To turn the TouchPad off or on, quickly double-tap the TouchPad on/off button. NOTE: The TouchPad light is off when the TouchPad is on. Navigating To move the pointer, slide one finger across the TouchPad in the direction you want the pointer to go. Scrolling Scrolling is useful for moving up, down, or sideways on a page or image. To scroll, place two fingers slightly apart on the TouchPad, and then drag them across the TouchPad in an up, down, left, or right motion. NOTE: Scrolling speed is controlled by finger speed. Rotating Rotating allows you to rotate items such as photos. To rotate, anchor your left forefinger in the TouchPad zone. Move the right forefinger around the anchored finger in a sweeping motion, moving from 12 o'clock to 3 o'clock. Removing the battery CAUTION: Removing a battery that is the sole power source for the computer can cause loss of information. To prevent loss of information, save your work and initiate Hibernation or shut down the computer through Windows before removing the battery. 1. Shutting down the computer CAUTION: Unsaved information is lost when the computer shuts down. The Shut down command closes all open programs, including the operating system, and then turns off the display and computer. Using the power meter The power meter is located in the notification area, at the far right of the taskbar. 9 Drives Handling drives CAUTION: Drives are fragile computer components that must be handled with care. Refer to the following cautions before handling drives. Replacing the hard drive 1. Insert the hard drive into the hard drive bay. 2. Replace the 4 screws (1) on the hard drive, and then connect the hard drive cable (2). 3. Removing or replacing the secondary hard drive (select models only) To remove or install the secondary hard drive, follow these steps: Removing the hard drive 1. Removing an optical disc There are 2 ways to remove a disc, depending on whether the disc tray opens normally or not. When the disc tray opens normally 1. Press the release button (1) on the drive bezel to release the disc tray, and then gently pull out the tray (2) until it stops. 2. Remove the - HP Pavilion dv7-6c00 | User Guide HP Notebook - Page 77
When the disc tray fails to open normally 1. Insert the end of a paper clip (1) into the release access in the front bezel of the drive. 2. Press in gently on the paper clip until the tray is released, and then pull out the tray (2) until it stops. 3. Sharing optical drives Although your computer may not have an integrated optical drive, you can access software and data, and install applications, by sharing an optical drive connected to another computer in your network. 10 Memory modules Adding or replacing memory modules The computer has two memory module slots.
