Topic Fibre Channel Router (FCR) backbone Fabric ID change Fabric Configuration Server (FCS) switch Automatic Distribution HP branded SFPs DC Director ICLs 8Gb-to-4Gb blade LD links DC Director Description • Modification of backbone fabric IDs with 8Gb blades present on the 4/256 SAN Director with a FR4-18i requires the switch to be disabled. • If there is more than one backbone, then the backbone fabric ID must be changed on all but one backbone in order to keep the IDs unique. • When using the FCS Automatic Distribution feature in Fabric OS 6.x, all switches in the fabric must be running a Fabric OS 6.x or later. If any switches are running Fabric OS 5.x or earlier, only manual distribution can be used. • FCS switch automatic distribution is supported in strict mode and tolerant mode. All 8Gb blades will function only with specific HP branded SFPs. The following SFPs are the only ones supported in the 8Gb blades: • 4Gb/s Short Wave SFP, AJ715A • 4Gb/s Long Wave SFP - 10km, AK870A • 8Gb/s Short Wave SFP+, AJ716A Attempts to insert any other SFPs into the 8Gb blades will cause the specific port to become non-functional, and will report the SFP as invalid (mod_inv). The above listed SFPs are not supported in any devices other than B-Series 8Gb devices. When connecting two DC Director chassis, the universal connect of the ICLs is now from upper to lower (they are color coded). Please refer to the following user documentation for more details: • HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director Inter-Chassis Link (ICL) cable kit installation instructions • HP StorageWorks DC SAN Backbone Director hardware reference guide When connecting 8Gb capable long-distance ports to 4Gb capable long-distance ports, the maximum number of buffers supported is 250. • DC Director power supplies operate correctly; however, at initial power on, a faulty message may be seen, followed by a healthy message. Disregard the faulty message; the power supply sensor may initially fail but quickly transitions to a healthy status shortly after power up. • If the power supplies in a DC Director are in slots 1 and 3, or 2 and 4, the switchstatusshow command will display "Power supplies monitor MARGINAL," even though there is nothing wrong with the power supplies. Reposition the power supply in slot 3 or slot 4 to slot 2. With the power supplies in slots 1 and 2, the command will display the correct status. • When ICLs are used, some ports may encounter CRC errors, resulting in lower throughput due to ICL cable tolerance.
