Use ordinary sewing foot. Stitch length: 2 Turn utility-stitch control (5) to zigzag-stitch symbol. To overcast the edges of light and mediumweight fabrics, set the machine for its maxi mum stitch width. Soft and flimsy fabrics are best overcast with a zigzag stitch of medium width. Make sure the needle takes one stitch into the fabric and the other over its edge. This will cover the fabric edge securely. 26 Press-open seams Attach ordinary sewing foot. Turn utility-stitch control (5) to zigzag stitch symbol. Set stitch length control bet ween buttonhole symbol and "O". Set stitch width control (18) on narrow zigzag seam symbol. Sew the two pieces of material together with the machine set as indicated above. Then press the seam open. This seam is particularly well suited for stretch fabrics. When sewing synthetic stretch fabrics, please note the instructions given for regulating the tension on p. 16. 27
