151 Exploring Your Computer's Features Exploring audio features DEFINITION: A .wav (pronounced "wave") file is a Windows® format for storing sound. TECHNICAL NOTE: If you record MP3 files, you can only play them on a device capable of playing MP3 files. Using a microphone To record high-quality sounds, you can use the internal microphone or attach an external microphone: 1 If you are using the internal microphone, which is located below the keyboard in the left side of the palm rest, go to step 4. Otherwise, connect an external microphone to the computer, by locating the microphone jack near the front of the right side of the computer. 2 Plug the microphone cord into the microphone jack on your computer. 3 Turn on the microphone. NOTE You may use the built-in microphone located on the front of your computer. 4 Click Start, point to All Programs, Accessories, Entertainment, then click Sound Recorder. The Sound Recorder screen displays.
