Removing the Key From the Ignition 1. Put the gearshift in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or 1 (First) (manual transmission). Set the parking brake fully. Turn the ignition to the OFF (manual transmission) or LOCK (automatic transmission). Push in the key release button until it catches and stays in (manual transmission only). 2. 3. 4. NOTE: If your vehicle has an automatic transmission, the gearshift lever must be in the P (Park) position to remove the key from the ignition. If the key is stuck in the LOCK position, move the steering wheel left or right until the key turns freely. If the driver's door is open while the key is still in the ignition, a warning chime sounds. 66
