If No Steam Is Coming From Your Engine I f you zet the overheat warning but see or hear no steam. the problem may not be too serious. Sometimes the engine can get a little too h o t when you: 0 I f you no longer have the overheat warning.you can drive. Just t o be safe. drive slower for about 10 minutes. If the warning doesn't come back on. you can drive norrnally. I f the warning continues. pull over, stop, andpark your vehicle right away. I f there's still no sign of steam. push the accelerator until the engine speedis about twice as fast as normal idle speed. Bringthe engine speedback t o normal idle speed after two orthree minutes. Now see if the warning stops. But then, if you still have the warning, r u m o g t l w eugine c ~ got e l ? e r ; \ . o l w out oftlw \vl~iclc. l until it cools down. You may decide not t o lift the hood but to get service help right away. Climb a long h i l l on a hot day. Stop after high-speed driving. Idle for long periods i n traffic. Tow a trailer. See "Driving on Grades" in the Index. If you get the overheat warning with no sign of steam, try this for a minute or so: 2. T~11-11 y o ~ heater t o full hot at the highest fan on ~r speed and open the window as necessary. 3.
