ADULT SECTION Maintenance Ski Skags The skag (A) is a replaceable bar attached to the underside of the ski. The purpose of the skag is to assist in turning the snowmobile and to prevent the wearing away of the ski caused by contact with roads and other bare terrain. We A recommend that skags be checked once a week to maintain positive steering characteristics. Skags must be replaced when worn to half their original diameter. NOTE: See dealer track studding and skag chart for recommended skags. WARNING Worn skis and/or skags will adversely affect handling and can cause loss of vehicle control, which can lead to serious injury or death. Replace worn skis and/or skags when inspection reveals wear. Skag Replacement 1. Raise and support the front of the machine so the skis are approximately 6″ (15.2 cm) from the ground. 2. Remove the attaching nuts and pry the skag downward. 3. Remove the forward portion of the skag. Reverse this procedure for new skag installation. NOTE: If the rear idler wheel assembly (1) washers are removed, be sure they are reinstalled with the domed side of the washer facing out (2) as shown. 1 2 78

Ski Skags

Skag Replacement
