Maintenance Battery Charging (Sealed Battery) On a sealed battery, the sealing strip cannot be removed. Use a voltmeter or multimeter to measure DC voltage. A fully charged battery will register 12.8 V or higher. If the voltage is less than 12.8 volts, recharge the battery. WARNING! An overheated battery could explode, causing severe injury or death. Always watch charging times carefully. Stop charging if the battery becomes very warm to the touch. Allow it to cool before resuming charging. The battery may be recharged without removing it from the vehicle. Attach cables in the following order: 1. Attach the positive (+) cable clamp to the solenoid lead (directly wired to the battery). 2. Attach the negative (-) cable clamp to the negative (-) battery terminal. 2. Negative (-) Terminal 1.
