MAINTENANCE Spark Arrestor WARNING Failure to heed the following warnings while servicing the spark arrestor could result in serious injury or death. • Do not perform service on the spark arrestor while the system is hot. Allow components to cool sufficiently before proceeding. • Wear eye protection and gloves. • Never run the engine in an enclosed area. Exhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxide gas. To remove accumulated carbon, clean the spark arrestor at the intervals recommended in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 53. 1. Remove the six bolts and remove the arrestor from the end of the muffler. 2. Use a non-synthetic brush to clean the arrestor screen. A synthetic brush may melt if components are warm. If necessary, Arrestor Screen blow debris from the screen with compressed air. 3. Inspect the screen for wear and damage. Replace the arrestor if damage is found. 4. Reinstall the arrestor. 5. Torque the bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (9.5 Nm). 68

Spark Arrestor
Failure to heed the following warnings while servicing the spark arrestor could
result in serious injury or death.
° Do not perform service on the spark arrestor while the system is hot. Allow
components to cool sufficiently before proceeding.
° Wear eye protection and gloves.
°
Never run the engine in an enclosed area. Exhaust contains poisonous carbon
monoxide gas.
To remove accumulated carbon, clean the spark arrestor at the intervals
recommended in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 53.

Remove the six bolts and
remove the arrestor from
the end of the muffler.
2.
Use a non-synthetic brush

screen. A synthetic brush

are warm. If necessary,
blow debris from the
screen with compressed
air.
3.
Inspect the screen for wear and damage. Replace the arrestor if
damage is found.
4.
Reinstall the arrestor.
5.
Torque the bolts to 7 ft. lbs. (9.5 Nm).
