FreeBSD Installation To install the 3ware driver For FreeBSD Version 4.8: The FreeBSD kernel already has an old 3ware driver embedded. You cannot load the new driver on top of the existing driver, so you must first remove it. 1 Make sure the FreeBSD driver is in an accessible location. 2 Remove the old 3ware driver which is part of the kernel. Change to this directory: /usr/src/sys/i386/conf Copy the configuration file to a custom file. For example, if the configuration file is GENERIC, type: cp GENERIC CUSTOM Edit the custom file vi CUSTOM Comment out the line under RAID controllers that says #device twe # 3ware Escalade (move to that line and type #) Save the file. Follow FreeBSD instructions to rebuild the kernel and install the new kernel. 3 Reboot with the rebuilt kernel. 4 Back up /modules/twe.ko 5 Copy the driver file (twe.ko) to /modules cp twe.ko /modules 6 Load the driver kldload twe.ko If units are present, you should see unit information in the system log (usually, /var/log/messages).
