Problems following Initial System Installation Problems that occur at initial system startup are usually caused by an incorrect installation or configuration. Hardware failure is a less frequent cause. If the problem you are experiencing is with a specific software application, see "Problems with Newly Installed Application Software." First Steps Checklist T Is AC power available at the wall outlet? T Are the power supplies plugged in? Check the AC cable(s) on the back of the chassis and at the AC source. T Are all cables correctly connected and secured? T Are the processors fully seated in their sockets on the server board? T Are all standoffs in the proper location and not touching any components, causing a potential short? T Are all add-in PCI boards fully seated in their slots on the server board? T Are all jumper settings on the server board correct? T Are all jumper and switch settings on add-in boards and peripheral devices correct? To check these settings, refer to the manufacturer's documentation that comes with them. If applicable, ensure that there are no conflicts-for example, two add-in boards sharing the same interrupt. T Are all peripheral devices installed correctly? T If the system has a hard disk drive, is it properly formatted or configured? T Are all device drivers properly installed? T Are the configuration settings made in Setup correct? T Is the operating system properly loaded? Refer to the operating system documentation. T Is the system power cord properly connected to the system and plugged into a NEMA 5-15R outlet for 100-120 V~or a NEMA 6-15R outlet for 200-240V~? T Are all integrated components from the tested components lists? Check the tested memory, and chassis lists, as well as the supported hardware and operating system list. Chapter 4 90
