Adaptec Storage Manager Pro User's Guide 4 Click Reconfigure. Storage Manager Pro reconfigures the array using your selected drives. You can continue using the array while Storage Manager Pro reconfigures it even though the reconfiguration may take several hours to complete, depending on the array type, size of the array, and the I/O load. See Viewing Task Progress on page 6-5. After you expand the size of an array, you must also use Disk Administrator to make the additional space available to users. Note: If you are adding drives to a RAID 5 set, your data will not be redundant until the reconfiguration process is completed. Changing Array Settings or Properties You can change the following array settings or properties: I Array Name. Type a new name. I Array size. See Expanding Array Capacity on page 3-2. I Write cache. See Changing the Write Cache Properties on page 3-4. Note: As a precaution, you should back up array data before making changes to the array. Changing the Write Cache Properties You can change the array write cache properties. The read and write cache share the same memory location on the controller. The cache options work only if you are using a controller that supports caching. Write cache speeds write operations by temporarily storing write data in cache until the disk drives are available to write the data. Read cache speeds read operations by storing recently read or written data in cache and by reading ahead in the data. 3-4
