2.6.3 PCI slots This motherboard implements the PCI-X (Peripheral Component Interconnect Extended) bus technology to support up to 100MHz data transfers, or about 800MB/s. This bus technology is primarily designed for servers to increase the performance of high bandwidth devices such as Gigabit Ethernet cards and Ultra320 SCSI interfaces. PCI-X is backward compatible with the earlier PCI bus technology making it possible to install PCI and PCI-X cards at the same time, but the bus speed will be that of the slowest card. The following figure shows the five PCI-X slots and one PCI slot on the motherboard. PCI-X1 PCI-X2 PCI-X3 PCI-X4 PCI64 PCI32 PCI-X slots (PCI X1 to X4) The motherboard may come with either the LSI® 53C1010R or the LSI® 53C1030 SCSI controller. Depending on the onboard SCSI controller, the following table shows the varying bus speeds for the PCI-X slots according to the PCI-X specification 1.0a. PCI-X Slot Onboard SCSI PCI-X1 to PCI-X2 53C1030 64-bit/100MHz PCI-X PCI-X3* to PCI-X4 PCI64 64-bit/100MHz PCI-X 64-bit/33MHz PCI * PCI-X3 supports the AMI MegaRAID 320-0 or Intel SRU ZCR Card PCI slot (PCI32) PCI32 is a 32-bit/33MHz 5V PCI slot with a Low Pin Count (LPC) signal connector to accommodate the ASUS Server Management Card. This slot has the same specifications regardless of the onboard SCSI controller. PCI slot (PCI64) PCI64 is a 64-bit/33MHz 3.3V PCI slot which supports up to 266MB/s bandwidth and supports most PCI expansion cards used in servers. ASUS PRL-DLS533 motherboard user guide 2-13
