For more information about designing and creating the features that appear on the map, refer to the documentation for the program you are using to create map data. Information You Need from Your Server Administrator Before you can begin creating map layers, you need information about the resources (spatial, raster, and attribute data) that you will use in your map. You also need information about Autodesk MapGuide® Server through which you will access those resources. The following list tells you which information you need to gather. Your server administrator will be able to provide you with this information. The location of the resources, and any access keys or passwords assigned to the resources. You will use this information when setting up a layer. The URL of the Autodesk MapGuide Server Agent (or MapAgent). If your organization has more than one Autodesk MapGuide Server, you may have more than one MapAgent to choose from. You specify the MapAgent you want to use when you set up a layer. Typically, the URL looks something like: http://www.yourcompany.com/MapAgent6/mapagent.exe Confirmation that you have been granted authoring privileges. Before you can browse for available resources to use for a layer, the server administrator must grant you authoring privileges by adding your user name and password to the Authors group in the Autodesk MapGuide Server Admin. For more information see "Managing Server Security" on page 80. 122 | Chapter 6 Planning and Designing Maps
