Therefore, adjust the tension to suit the sewing conditions. A balanced stitch length can be obtained if the tension is adjusted so that it is tighter (higher #) for thick materials and looser (lower #) for thin materials as shown in the illustration at left. Order of thread tension adjustment When you adjust the thread tension, do it in the following order: FIVE-THREAD OVERLOCK STITCH 1) Left needle thread (red) 2) Upper looper thread (green) 3) Lower looper thread (blue) 4) Double chain stitch needle thread (yellow) 5) Double chain stitch looper thread (purple) FOUR-THREAD OVERLOCK STITCH 1) Left needle thread (yellow) 2) Right needle thread (red) 3) Upper looper thread (green) 4) Lower looper thread (blue) This is the easiest way to obtain correct thread tension. - 36 -

Thread
tension
scale
The
thread
tension
may
vary
slightly
depending
on
the
type
of
material
and
the
type
and
thickness
of
the
thread.
Therefore,
adjust
the
tension
to
suit
the
sewing
conditions.
A
balanced
stitch
length
can
be
obtained
if
the
tension
is
adjusted
so
that
it
is
tighter
(higher
#)
for
thick
materials
and
looser
(lower
#)
for
thin
materials
as
shown
in
the
illustration
at
left.
Order
of
thread
tension
adjustment
When
you
adjust
the
thread
tension,
do
it
in
the
following
order:
