Problem Cannot send a document (continued) Cause Solution The one-touch or coded speed dialing number you used may not be registered for the feature you want to use. The other party's fax may be out of paper. There may be other documents being sent from memory. The telephone line may not be working properly. The receiving fax machine may not be a G3 fax machine. Check the one-touch or coded speed dialing button and be sure it is registered correctly. Call the other party and ask them to make sure paper is installed. Allow time for the current document to finish sending. Make sure there is a dial tone when you lift the telephone. If not, contact the local telephone company. Make sure the receiving fax machine is compatible with the MultiPASS (which is a G3 fax machine). Images on faxes received from the MultiPASS are spotted or dirty The receiving fax machine may not be working properly. The document may not be properly inserted in the ADF. Check the MultiPASS by making a copy. If the copy is clear, the problem may be in the receiving fax machine. Remove the document and feed it correctly into the ADF. See page 1-14. Cannot send or receive using Error Correction Mode (ECM) The other party's fax may not support ECM. Some fax units do not support ECM transmission. If the other party's fax does not support ECM transmission, then the document is sent in the normal mode without error checking. Errors occur frequently The phone line may be in while sending or receiving poor condition, or you may have a poor connection. The sending fax machine may not be functioning properly. Lower the transmission speed. See the Advanced: Send Fax dialog box (page 8-5) and the Advanced: Receive Fax dialog box (page 8-8). The sending fax machine usually determines the fax's quality. Call the sender and have them make sure the top cover and scanning glass on their fax machine are clean. 10-20 Troubleshooting Chapter 10
