Chapter 35 Configuring IP Unicast Routing Configuring EIGRP Configuring Basic EIGRP Parameters Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to configure EIGRP. Configuring the routing process is required; other steps are optional: Step 1 Step 2 Command configure terminal router eigrp autonomous-system number Step 3 nsf Step 4 network network-number Step 5 eigrp log-neighbor-changes Step 6 metric weights tos k1 k2 k3 k4 k5 Purpose Enter global configuration mode. Enable an EIGRP routing process, and enter router configuration mode. The AS number identifies the routes to other EIGRP routers and tags routing information. (Optional) Enable EIGRP NSF. Enter this command on the stack master and on all of its peers. Associate networks with an EIGRP routing process. EIGRP sends updates to the interfaces in the specified networks. (Optional) Enable logging of EIGRP neighbor changes to monitor routing system stability. (Optional) Adjust the EIGRP metric. Although the defaults have been carefully set to provide excellent operation in most networks, you can adjust them. Caution Setting metrics is complex and is not recommended without guidance from an experienced network designer. Step 7 offset list [access-list number | name] {in | out} (Optional) Apply an offset list to routing metrics to increase offset [type number] incoming and outgoing metrics to routes learned through EIGRP. You can limit the offset list with an access list or an interface. Step 8 no auto-summary Step 9 ip summary-address eigrp autonomous-system-number address mask (Optional) Disable automatic summarization of subnet routes into network-level routes. (Optional) Configure a summary aggregate. Step 10 end Step 11 show ip protocols Return to privileged EXEC mode. Verify your entries. Step 12 show ip protocols Verify your entries. For NSF awareness, the output shows: *** IP Routing is NSF aware *** Step 13 copy running-config startup-config EIGRP NSF enabled (Optional) Save your entries in the configuration file. Configuring EIGRP

Configuring Basic EIGRP Parameters

Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to configure EIGRP. Configuring the routing

process is required; other steps are optional:

Use the

forms of these commands to disable the feature or return the setting to the default value.

Command

Purpose

Step 1

configure terminal

Enter global configuration mode.

Step 2

router eigrp

autonomous-system number

Enable an EIGRP routing process, and enter router configuration

mode. The AS number identifies the routes to other EIGRP routers

and tags routing information.

Step 3

nsf

(Optional) Enable EIGRP NSF. Enter this command on the stack

master and on all of its peers.

Step 4

network

network-number

Associate networks with an EIGRP routing process. EIGRP sends

updates to the interfaces in the specified networks.

Step 5

eigrp log-neighbor-changes

(Optional) Enable logging of EIGRP neighbor changes to monitor

routing system stability.

Step 6

metric weights

tos k1 k2 k3 k4 k5

(Optional) Adjust the EIGRP metric. Although the defaults have

been carefully set to provide excellent operation in most networks,

you can adjust them.

Caution

Setting metrics is complex and is not recommended

without guidance from an experienced network

designer.

Step 7

offset list

(Optional) Apply an offset list to routing metrics to increase

incoming and outgoing metrics to routes learned through EIGRP.

You can limit the offset list with an access list or an interface.

(Optional) Disable automatic summarization of subnet routes into

network-level routes.

ip summary-address eigrp

autonomous-system-number address mask

(Optional) Configure a summary aggregate.

Step 10

Return to privileged EXEC mode.

show ip protocols

Verify your entries.

Step 12

show ip protocols

Verify your entries.
